The Current Account Switch Service unveils the UK’s Regional Switching Rankings for Q3 2025

Newcastle upon Tyne topped the table, doubling its Q2 switching total with 8,132 switches, followed by Birmingham (7,115) and Sheffield (5,499)

9 December 2025 – The Current Account Switch Service has today released the UK’s Regional Rankings for the third quarter of 2025. Between July and September, Newcastle surged to the top of the table with 8,132 switches, almost double its switching total for Q2 (4,257). This was followed by Birmingham at 7,115 switches, and Sheffield with 5,499.

London topped the rankings with 18,504 switches when its postcodes are combined.

25-40s drive switching figures
Despite making up only a fifth (22%) of the population2, 25-40 year olds switched by far the most across Q3 2025, moving 101,153 accounts, comprising 39% of all switches. Young adults in the 18-24 bracket were almost twice as likely to change their current account than the average consumer, making up 14% (35,806) of all switches and only 8% of the population.
This was followed by those aged 51-64 with 44,639 switches, those over 65 (40,160) and 41-50 year olds (39,532). These populations made up 48% of all switches, broadly aligned with their representation of the UK population of 49%. Those under 18, who make up the remaining 21% of the population, switched 405 times across the quarter, or 0.15% of total switches.

Our data tells a clear story, it is the younger generations assessing their current account options the most. As these groups are among the most acutely squeezed by prevailing financial headwinds, it’s positive to see they’re taking advantage of a healthy and vibrant banking market to find the best home for their cash.
